About:
The Quinta de Santa Eufémia estate was founded in 1894 by Bernardo Rodrigues de Carvalho. It is on the left bank of the River Douro, at an altitude of 300 metres and is located between Peso da Régua and Pinhão, in the heart of the oldest demarcated wine producing region in the world – The DOURO.
It is a land of secrets and unmistakable scents, such as the 40 hectares of vineyards planted on the estate between the schist terraces, 80% of them are the Tinta Barroca, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cão, Tinta Amarela, Touriga Brasileira, Rufete varieties, and some others, while 20% are Moscatel Galego, Cerceal and Gouveio vines.
At the moment 36% of the production is port wine, and 64% is Douro and Távora-Varosa table wine, of which 30% is sold on the domestic market and 70% is exported. The wines produced here are born of the attention, care and affection of the people who work on them, and this is reflected in a quality that speaks for itself.
The range starts with a table wine MATRICE, which is made from a batch from the two regions: Douro and Távora-Varosa. The goal is to have a wine that is nicely balanced in terms of acidity, freshness and good aromas, thus making a good wine for everyday drinking.
The PERENE range aims to be an excellent buy in terms of price/quality relationship. The White wine is a Távora-Varosa wine, made from 50% Sauvignon Blanc and 50% Gouveio, the Rosé is a Douro produced from crushing grapes that are from the outset meant for the Reserva and Grande Escolhas, and the Red, is another Douro, produced from various grapes. It is full-bodied and ruby red with short ageing in the cask to refine the tannins. The PERENE wines are beautifully crafted and reflect the year's harvests.
The top-of-the-range wines include the CSE Reserva Red, an acronym that strengthens the name Casa Santa Eufémia, a wine that clearly displays the Douro terroir and its character, the VISEU DE CARVALHO Grande Escolha Red and the latest wine MARIA DO CÉU Reserva White. These last two are aged for longer in new French oak casks and bear the names of the parents of the family, thereby paying tribute to the 3rd generation which is still with us.
Also under the name CASA SANTA EUFÉMIA we are bringing all our portfolio of Port Wines to the market, which are distinguished for their high quality in various categories. So the entry line of the range includes the White, Ruby and Tawny followed by the line of Old Tawnies with ages of 10, 20, 30 and 40 years. Also recently added are the Colheitas starting with one from 1995, the LBVs which start in 1995 and the Vintages that start in 1999. And then there is a rare port wine, the Reserva Especial Branco - white - which is from the 1973 harvest.
Each wine has its own style and is a unique moment of enjoyment!
